Hawaii

In March, Derek and I got to go to Hawaii WITHOUT KIDS! Yippee!!  My mother-in-law came up to stay with Bridger and Lilly.  So while they had a good time with Grandma, Derek and I got to have a little freedom....I love freedom.

We have been to most of the Hawaiian islands together but Derek had never been to Oahu, so we decided to go there.  To me Oahu has a different feel than the other islands.  It is much more touristy and has a busy city feel.  It is fun to see all the tourist stuff but once you've been there it isn't as exciting to see it again.  So now I've seen it twice and I think next time I would prefer one of the islands.  Derek and I would both agree that Kauai is our favorite!

Pearl Harbor

This snorkeling suit weighs 300 pounds!  Thank goodness for modern technology

We stayed across the street from a famous historic hotel called the Moana Surfrider.  It was built in 1901 and was the first hotel on Waikiki.   It is the most amazing building.  I loved everything about this place!  In the back they had a Banyon tree.  If you've never seen a Banyon tree, they are impressive!  (The picture below is only part of the tree) It is 150 ft across and the trunk is 75 feet tall.

Derek won the spear throwing contest! Hidden talent

Lilly loves to laugh and make everyone around her laugh

Spring Break

Snow in March!!  It is rare to see snow in Portland at all especially in March.  It didn't stay long but it was fun while it lasted.

For Spring Break we got a condo at Otter Crest on the Oregon Coast.  We all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed where we were staying.  There was so much to do.  The weather was decent.  We had a good mix of sun and rain.  There was a heated outdoor pool and the kids loved swimming in the rain.  When the weather was good we would walk  to the beach and explore the tide pools and play in the sand.

We also visited the Aquarium in Newport.

Japanese King crabs can get up to 12 feet wide.  HUGE

Bridger has been fascinated by sharks lately.  He loved the tunnel through the shark tank.  He could have stayed in there for days.  Lilly on the other hand was scared so Derek and I took turns with Bridger.

Lilly noticed some of the shops near the aquarium and wanted to stop.  She had so much fun hanging out with the "pirates"

FYI: I know these posts are a bit boring.  I have had them waiting to be published for months now.  I am just happy I can cross it off my to do list!
